“Amanda Knox” . An Analysis

Amanda knox is a brilliant portrayal on how things could go terribly wrong over a single night, having to affect the people closest to you and having millions judge you for someone who you may or may not be, especially through the trials of the media and law enforcement.

Amanda knox is an American exchange student who works local in a small town in Italy who gets entangled in a murder against her friend and roommate. The sheer brilliance lies in the mystery that centers around this case and is brought forth visually with archival footage and sheer atmospheric music. And another genius of this film is the behaviour of the people involved in the case, all the way from Amanda to her lover and the policeman who wishes to be a deductive investigator just like his idol ‘Sherlock Holmes’. And this behaviour is showed so intricately that if one fails to notice one isn’t watching. And this is done through filling in the scenes with footage of new, years beyond the case and voice over from before the case and during. All this woven together, constructs a compelling narrative that demands your attention for it wishes to say more than what you may think. It poses question after question and the impact and practices of the Media, their hunt for the last chunk of meat on bone under any and all circumstances possible. Law enforcement that entail ill sanctioned practises. And their rule over one’s life. A connection is instantly formed between you and all three parties. Amanda. The Media. The Murder and the Law. Having to bring about a narrative only through archival footage leaves the audience to assess the case alongside the news given by the media at the time and the law at the time. And towards the end one feels an overwhelming sense of what is and what isn’t. A feat that is remarkable.
