VIII. CAMERAWORK: What ‘Unscripted’ could have added upon in reference to other films?

Camerawork employed by found footage films are shot completely in a faux documentary aspect which require a realistic-naturalist approach to camerawork as done on our production of ‘Unscripted’, being a part of the ‘Camera and lighting department’, asks you to be adept to its technical challenges and is an Important practice, for it plays an essential aspect in drama and mood, adding to the overlines of the finished film.

Lighting shots from the exterior of the villa over Door frames and windows through hard lighting and soft lighting indoors was tricky at certain times for the position of the sun would change over certain scenes that got delayed. And managing those scenes with heightened awareness were tricky yet gratifyingly challenging by matching the sun’s light by changing light positions and its intensity. Studying lighting setups done on Robert Richardson’s sets have always been such an intrigue and I had the opportunity to use them on set during daylight.

French found footage flick, ‘Decent into Darkness: My European Nightmare (2013)’ had camerawork in place that were excessively shaky to a point of nausea, but it added to the theme of the story. Having established a balance between excessively shaky shots and stable ones would have proven more realistic on the scenes of ‘Unscripted’ for some shots were mostly stable at times which wouldn’t require of it, rather the contrary but this could be played differently with shaky movement with a slight increase in frame rate and shutter speed and a slightly reduced white balance scheme against white lighting (Tungsten) during scenes which involve running and intensity. Night shot (2018) , a French Horror found footage flick found it’s way to my viewing in time and the entire film is a single take throughout its run-time with impeccable staging and direction And as part of the department I would have wanted to experience a particular scene or an Act in ‘Unscripted’ with the ‘long take’ filled with scare-fright staging, some shots did have that as do most found footage flicks but having a floor plan for the final act with the screenwriters and the camera department to accomplish such a feat would be a truly worthy experience and an experience for the audience watching but nothing short of the experience offered on the sets of ‘Unscripted’
